Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy (PT) is a unique science and art that utilizes a wide variety of procedures to restore function to the body, reduce pain and help prevent future injury. Under the supervision of an Aspen Club Sports Medicine Institute Physical Therapist, specific patient goals are determined and a customized treatment plan is created to address these goals. Various physical therapy modalities and techniques may be utilized during treatment, including, traction, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, ice and heat, with a focus in therapeutic exercise and manual therapy.
*Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care focuses on treating the whole person structurally from head to toe with an emphasis on detecting and correcting both the global and local kinetic chain dysfunction(s). Dr. Pete Scher’s areas of expertise include Full Spine Diversified adjusting, CCEP extremity adjusting, soft tissue manipulation/adhesion release, proprioceptive and core stabilization rehabilitation, orthotic design, ergonomic training, patient education, and cold laser therapy.
Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Our team works with individuals who have undergone a total hip or knee replacement, sustained trauma to a bone, or have a bone or soft tissue disease. The Orthopedic Rehabilitation uses a standardized, functional and outcomes-oriented approach to care that focuses specifically on the injury or surgical need. We focus on helping patients regain their strength, mobility and endurance so they can return home and resume their regular routines.
Sports
Through an active and educational continuum of treatment, our therapists assist the patient in returning to normal, daily activities as soon as possible. By providing comprehensive education in anatomy, pathology and care of the specific sport injury, the patient is empowered to participate in his or her recovery and in the prevention of future injury. Our experienced physical therapists will design and implement a rehabilitation program that emphasizes sport specific mechanics and goals from acute care through all phases of rehabilitation, reconditioning, return to training and ultimately the return to sport or competition
Sports Performance
Nothing will bring about an athletes true potential more than the development of strength and power. The Aspen Club’s Sports Performance programs are based upon the notion that a solid foundation of the whole body is necessary to achieve optimal strength and power. Utilizing this model we help transfer the skills and strength gains developed in the gym onto the sporting fields. Athletes develop speed, agility, and core stability, with a progressive program that includes functional and traditional strength training, Olympic weight lifting, and sprint training when applicable. Perhaps the greatest asset to this program is the reduction of injuries. The sport performance program is not only for the elite athlete. Recreational golfers and skiers, high school football and hockey players, among others have all benefited from this program with amazing results.
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy incorporates the properties of water to positively impact movement, strength and function. Water is a safe and effective medium to exercise specific muscle groups and joints with substantially less compressive forces than other types of exercise. Aquatic therapy techniques are designed to move against the buoyancy of water, facilitating exercise by making movement easier and less painful. We utilize techniques that build on water’s natural resistance to improve quality and strength of movement. The therapeutic, non-weight-bearing properties of water create an ideal rehabilitation environment, especially for post-operative patients or those with back injuries.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
The vestibular rehabilitation program is designed to help people suffering from dizziness, vertigo, imbalance and other inner ear disorders. Vestibular rehabilitation is a conservative, non-invasive and drug-free option for combating dizziness and balance difficulties. A clinician will develop an individualized treatment plan that includes exercises to strengthen posture, gait and components of the balance system (eyes, ears and legs). A home exercise program may be designed specifically to the patient’s tolerance, physical condition and diagnosis.
*Women’s Health Program
The Women’s Health Program at the Aspen Club Sports Medicine Institute is a specialized type of physical therapy that focuses on improving the health and fitness of women throughout all the phases of life. Each patient receives a thorough musculoskeletal evaluation, assessment of the pelvic floor for muscle strength, spasm and function, one-on-one instruction and an individualized treatment plan to help meet their goals. We provide evaluation and treatment for urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pain during the pregnancy and post-partum periods, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, abdominal or pelvic muscle weakness, post surgical care, and osteoporosis management among other conditions.
*Pilates Rehab
Pilates based physical therapy is based on the small, patient-centered, movement-oriented approach to physical therapy that can offer patients an unrivaled possibility for healing. Treatment is grounded in the therapeutic movements and techniques of classical Pilates as well as traditional physical therapy modalities. Patients become an active participant in their care through education about maintenance and injury prevention, allowing them to gain maximum benefit from the therapy while empowering the ability to maintain strength and flexibility long after therapy ends.
BioMechanial Evaluation
A biomechanical evaluation provides a detailed full body assessment of the quality of how you move. It provides a key component to wellness and injury prevention, as well as performance enhancement by evaluating the kinetic chain and force transmission in functional movement patterns.
This evaluation will investigate joint motion, muscle length/strength relationships, dynamic strength and stability as well as neuromuscular awareness and control. This detailed information will allow a prescriptive exercise program to be established to address any underlying issues that may predispose you to mechanical stress, overload or injury and decrease efficiency in performance or training.
*Orthotics
Dr. Pete Scher, D.C. makes custom functional corrective orthotics using a unique rehabilitative and casting protocol. Prior to casting the foot, Dr Scher rehabilitates the foot utilizing soft tissue manipulation, adjustments and exercise to maximize the natural foot mechanics and minimizing foot pathology. Foot flexibility, body weight and activity level are factored in when designing the orthotic and the orthotics are individually calibrated based on those measurements. This evidence –based protocol was created with the intent to design the most functional corrective orthotic possible. Orthotics may be recommended as an adjunct for the treatment of numerous structural imbalances, weaknesses and symptoms including: plantar fasciitis, foot pain, back pain, knee pain, hip pain, ankle instability, Morton’s Neuorma, bunions, heel pain, hammer toes, shin splints, Achilles tendonitis, metatarsalgia, sesamoiditis and many other conditions affecting the foot and the structural foundation.
*Cardiopulmonary exercise Testing
Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) provides a global assessment of the integrative exercise responses involving the pulmonary, cardiovascular, hematopoietic, neuropsychological, and skeletal muscle systems, which are not adequately reflected through the measurement of individual organ system function. This relatively noninvasive, dynamic physiologic overview permits the evaluation of both submaximal and peak exercise responses, providing the physician with relevant information for clinical decision making.
*Alter G Treadmill
Cleared by the FDA in 2008, the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill is a medical device that can be used for:
- Rehabilitation of lower extremity injuries
- Treatment of neurological conditions
- Weight reduction
- Aerobic conditioning
- General training to combat the diseases of aging
Unweighting is achieved in the AlterG by using air in a pressure-controlled chamber to gently lift the user. Precise calibration using our patented technology allows for very specific unweighting from 100-20% of the users body weight in 1% increments.
*Kinesio taping
A therapeutic taping modality used for multiple conditions including pain, swelling, to enhance or inhibit tissue function, as well as for a stabilizing function. Kinesio tape is beneficial in the acute, sub-acute, chronic stages of injury and can have various benefits throughout the rehabilitative period. It can also be used for injury prevention.
Examples of conditions that kinesio tape can be beneficial in include ligament, tendon and joint injuries, muscle imbalance and postural related pain, as well as circulatory and lymphatic conditions among many others. The benefit of kinesio tape relies on proper evaluation and application of the tape by a trained individual. Ultimately, the goal of using kinesio tape is to facilitate your body’s return to normal function and homeostasis.
* Dry Needling (COMING SOON!)
Dry needling is a technique used to stimulate the body’s natural healing response for repairing injured soft tissue. Soft tissue injuries include muscle spasm, muscle strains, ligament sprains, and nerve irritation.
Dry needling is also excellent for managing pain without the use of pharmaceuticals such as nsaids, pain killers, steroids and muscle relaxants.
Dry needling is an excellent complement to Chiropractic and Physical Therapy. By reducing pain, controlling inflammation and speeding up the body’s natural tissue repair process, a patient will heal faster from their injury and be able to participate in rehabilitative exercise sooner and more effectively. The goal is always to get a patient to stability as quickly as possible and get them back out there doing what they love. Dry Needling is one more tool in the bag used to help speed this process up.
